Hi there - can anyone advise how to buy a second hand car in Auckland? I am coming over in July.
Besides Trade Me where I notice a lot of individuals sell and buy - are there car markets or dealers that anyone can provide links to that you can go to physically look at several cars at one go to compare them against each other and what are the things to look out for when buying a second hand car?

you also can search in Facebook - there are a numbers of Page groups for this - one of it is New Zealand Working Holiday Visa.

As suggested above there are some car fairs (e.g. Ellerslie) where you can buy cars from private owners.

Otherwise, there are a lot of dealers around Manukau that sell second hand cars.

I have bought both at the Ellerslie Car Fair and in Manukau (Kilburn Cars) before.

I bought a car on great north road but you`ll find dealers everywhere. Do your homework! Otherwise you will be sorry. There are plenty of websites advising on what to do and look for.
And haggle till the cows come home, it`s actually quite fun. When I bought the car it was like in a bad movie...but fun. Try it out.

...and talk to taxi drivers. They will tell you what car suits your individual situation and needs and will then tell you the prices you should expect and lots of other stuff. Very helpful in our case
