    Default Work visa-high blood pressure

I applied for my two years work visa in May, and the immigration asked me to do my BP plus some blood and urine tests. My BP was quite high like 160/100 something. I am 29 and I v done full medical one year ago, everything was fine just the BP. So it was not a surprise when they asked me to redo the BP. After this test soon they replied that the specialist report is needed regarding my BP. I went to see the specialist last week, and showed him my records I did at home which were totally fine. He did clinical assessment like listening to my heart, lungs, tummy, ecg, etc. All normal. He then suggested me to do a 24 hour bp monitoring as my symptom looked like white coat syndrome.

My problem is that during that day, I felt so not me, very nervous, each time the cuff inflated, my tummy twisted and I could feel my heart was racing. The cuff was too big and wide for me as I am quite slim and it kept slipping which made me even more nervous. During that night I did not sleep at all and kept thinking of the test. I only got some rest during the gap between each test as when it came to the test time, I became anxious. I worried so much about it and then, this week they told me the specialist has checked my results and I need some follow up.

I am so frustrated now. What will happen then? If I do have high bp, will it be a problem for my visa? I am sure it was not the secondary hypertension as the specialist checked everything already. Is there anyone that suffers from white coat syndrome could not get the 24hour bp monitoring right? Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Also, they asked me to provide a report which states the next 5-10years' condition, and this is so weird as I am only applying for a two years work visa. Is this normal?

If INZ think it likely that an applicant will not be intending to leave NZ at the end of the temporary work visa, but may well try for another work visa and/or residence, then they look further into the future.

Thanks JandM. This makes sense then. Now it's only the problem of my BP. Hope the specialist will help me figure it out during my next visit.

Update: I went to see the specialist this morning. He asked me how I was feeling during the 24 hour monitoring. I told him I was freaked out and he said the results did show so. It was sky high. But he was so nice and supportive, he still did not think I have got any high blood pressure problem especially when I showed him the home BP records I have kept (I even tried to get my night time BP down after I finished the test). I also brought my BP monitor with me during the visit. He asked the nurse to help check if my BP monitor was accurate. The result was positive. It was as accuate as their big machine. As for the result, he got a copy of my own records, and said he would just do me a finial report to state that my symptom was only white coat syndrome.

So relieved. The specialist and the nurse were so nice. If somebody suffers the same problem, please do buy a monitor and keep your records regularly. It will help a lot, even when you could not make the 24 hour BP monitoring right.

I will update again when I finically get my visa. All the best for everyone who is reading my post.

Did he have a high BP during the medical test? That BP record is just for the specialist when needed. If immigration did not ask your father to provide a specialist report, nothing to worry about.

I called immigration today. They told me that my medical has been assessed last week. Now my case is in the queue, waiting for a case officer to be reallocated.its been three weeks since I submitted the specialist report. Fingers crossed.
