Default NZQA evaluation - New SMC rules.

    Hi all..

Will the NZQA evaluation required anymore under new SMC rules. I had this doubt as it says there is no points on qualificaiton on absolute skill shortage list..

    Will it still be valid?

    Hi cricfor,

I think the new rules is not official announced yet, but you may refer to below document pages 13-14 as a preview:
    http://www.mbie.govt.nz/info-service...t-category.pdf

    Below points are removed:
    1. NZ Skilled employment - An identified future growth area.
    2. Working Experience - An identified future growth area.
    3. Qualification - An identified future growth area.
    4. Qualification - An area of absolute skills shortage.

Below points still able to use LTSSL to claim points (LTSSL may be one of the acceptance criteria, not the only one)
    1. NZ Skilled employment - An area of absolute skills shortage.
    2. working experiences (in number of years)
    3. working experience - An area of absolute skills shortage.

LTSSL acceptance depends on IQA result if your qualification is not exactly on the LTSSL column 3&4 (for Engineer category plus IPENZ letter). So for SMC applicant, it depends but I think many people needed IQA result to claim LTSSL points.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not sure. But I highly doubt NZQA assessment is going to stop. You would still need NZQA in order to claim points for your qualification IN GENERAL, i.e. this many points for a bachelor's degree, that many points for a master's, etc. LTSSL points are a separate thing that you can ask NZQA to consider in order to claim "bonus" points. I don't think anyone knows for sure right now whether LTSSL will continue to be used in the new SMC rules.

Anything anyone says in advance of the announcement is just guesswork.
