Default Applying for a visiting visa for parents - Applicant is on resident visa

    Hi Everyone

My partner would like to bring her parents to look after our daughter for 6 to 9 months. We are on Resident Visa.
I have not yet moved to NZ. She has already started working in NZ.

Could you please let me know the steps to apply for a visiting visa? I guess there are some sponsorship formalities and medical need to be done.

I heard that if she applies for a 6 months visa for parents then they do not need medicals; and then later we can apply for extension to 3 more months by submitting a chest x ray. Is that true?

    Parents are living in India.

Appreciate any responses, or previous post's links.

    Thank you.

See here https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...-visa#criteria on the INZ website. Look at all the links off the page as well, and click on the Show Evidence button.

    Hi JandM

I would like to clarify a few things.

My partner is bringing parents on visiting visa ( 9 months) in March 2017.

Is it OK to apply now and travel in March 2017? Is there any fixed first entry date on the visa?
What is the usual processing time?

    Thank you.

She should talk to INZ. I believe I remember hearing of people who have specifically asked for a visa to be valid FROM a certain date, rather than too soon. I haven't had direct experience of this, so it's better to ask the authorities.

Its funny, I have gone thru this exactly.

Dates however - you need to be careful.
The visit VISA is valid for 1 year from the date it is stamped.. so if you plan for them to stay 6-9 months , you need to work backwards.
If you apply now , it will be stamped now and that means 1 year validity from now.

    Good luck.

Visitor visa is valid only for 9 months.

    Here under visa conditions:

Default Applying for a visiting visa for parents - Sponsor is on NZ Resident

Just wondering whether I must select:

( Type of Visa = "General Visitor Visa" )

    OR

( Type of Visa = "Special Category Visitor Visa" AND under Special Category Visitor Visa = "Parents and Grandparents of New Zealand Citizens or Resident")

As I can read from this forum, INZ treats these visa types differently in terms of medical assessment...
Medical checks are required for both the visa types.
I want to apply for a maximum 1 years visa.
Not sure which one needs lesser paper work.
