    Default Residency to PR

    Hi,

I came here March 2016, and my family joined with me in Oct 2017. I would like to when we can apply for PR.

Is there any impact on Labour Party Decision, to cut down Immigration, especially transfer from Residence to PR?

When I can apply my PR? If I complete 182 days in each year then or I have to wait minimum two years?

    Thanks and regards,

    Benny

From what I understand, this cut down is only for unskilled visa categories.

If you held RV for two years, you can apply PRV anytime after holding RV for two years:
    https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...anent-resident

It is 184 days in an year immediately preceding the PRV application. NOT 182 days.

By April 1, 2018 you can apply for PR.

I suspect any changes migration-wise will focus on incoming applications for things like SMC visas, rather than on people already here with resident or permanent resident visas.

    Absolutely.

Any ideas if anything of this sort happened in the past in NZ? I mean rule changes affecting existing RV holders.

Nothing like that has happened in the time I have been watching NZ immigration law - nearly 18 years now.

I did start out by looking into being able to migrate myself, after my son married a NZer...
