Default Work Visa Delay - due to Zimbabwean Police Clearance

    Hi All,

My father in law is a South African Citizen, but was born in Zim. He left there after turning 17 but before the "5 years after turning 17 period".
His case officer has just emailed him asking for a Zimbabwean police clearance. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them? And if so, how does one go about obtaining one - I mean what would the chances of him actually getting it be? They are asking for it by next week, which seems a little unfair. Does anyone know if perhaps he wrote a letter with the dates of his departure etc, that would suffice?

    Any help appreciated.

Does he hold Zimbabwean citizenship as well as South African? If so, this would come under A5.5 c, and he would have to make the attempt. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsm....htm?35052.htm

The short deadline is in line with an instruction given to INZ by the government, with the hope that it would speed up processing. In practice, INZ COs know that people cannot magic up evidence in no time at all, particularly if they have to involve other people to get an answer or some evidence, including getting things sent from overseas. Therefore, if the person replies within the stated time, saying what they are doing about getting what has been requested (if appropriate, copying in the emails or letters they have sent out), the CO is normally in agreement to allow a reasonable time for the answer to be obtained.

If your father-in-law is not a Zimbabwean citizen, then he can certainly make the point that on (whatever) date, he turned 17, and on (whatever) date he left the country, and the time between is not five years. If he is a Zimbabwean citizen, then the procedure for getting a police check is to be found by clicking in the box here. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...e-certificates

Thanks - nope he is not a Zimbabwean Citizen anymore. Think the best option is to write them a letter with all the dates and details and hope for the best.

    Thanks for your help!
