Default Claiming point for recognised qualification

    Hi all,

I am currently holding Essential work visa and looking to study.

As I don't have any qualification in NZ, I would like to study distant learning qualification in order to claim points for SMC.

There is some school offered online qualification that doesn't require Variation of condition, but I am not sure if those qualification can be counted as recognised qualification? do they only recognised full-time study in NZ?

Also, does the qualification has to be related to the job when you apply SMC?

You will need to check that the providing body has been assessed as an Approved Education Provider. See this page. http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/studying-in-...n-institution/ There is link there through which you can contact NZQA to ask more questions.

See SM8.5 http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/studying-in-...n-institution/. The chart shows you that qualifications assessed as Level 5 and 6, 7 and 8, or 9 and 10, will get you 40, 50 or 70 points, even if they are not relevant to your skilled job.
