    Default Sponsorship

Hi anyone can throw some light please asking on behalf my mate has got a historical conviction 2012 and then he got his PR in 2014 and then Citizenship last year. He is now sponsoring his partner to support in her work and residence application. Will he be successful in getting a character waiver as I am pretty sure he disclosed when he became a permanent resident from Residence visa.

As ChrisMwn the LIA has said, 'Once a character waiver, always a character waiver' - that is, the fact that a waiver was granted once doesn't make the fact go away that the person DID commit an offence in the past. At any time when the matter of their past history arises, they have to declare the offence, and will most likely be required to account for their actions all over again. See here https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...lders#criteria by clicking on Evidence under the heading Your partner's character.

Hello JandM thank you for your response. Thank you for providing the link so it is likely to succeed as it did when Permanent Residence was granted and same was the case at Citizenship?

As long as the man you're talking about did indeed declare the past offence at those earlier stages.

As you know Citizenship has more stringent checks and you can’t get past Citizenship unless they are declared

I didn't actually know that checks for citizenship would be more stringent than for a residence visa. We see little on the forum about it, and most posts are about applying for various visas with INZ.

He had to disclose any conviction on citizenship application as it department of internal affairs as becoming a Citizen acquiring Kiwi Nationality is a big deal for a country to allow someone
