Were there any issues along the way? Or did they do 9 months over a straight forward application?

It was a very straightforward application. Could well have been finalised in March, had Covid 19 not struck. The initial delays were due to the Christmas break and then my ex-employer taking 4 weeks to reply to the questionnaire. The CO never asked me for any extra info or docs. It went into 2PC check in March, and that's where it was for the following 3 months. That was the longest delay.

Thank you, all. Here is my complete timeline:

    29.09.2019: EOI Submitted
    02.10.2019: EOI Selected
    03.10.2019: ITA Received
    03.11.2019: Application sent to INZ
    05.11.2019: Application Lodged
    13.12.2019: Payment deducted
    31.01.2020: CO Assigned
03.02.2020: CO introduced himself. Initial assessment done.
20.03.2020: CO confirmed the application sent to 2PC check
    19.06.2020: Visa approved in principle
21.06.2020: Online status changed to APPROVED
25.06.2020: Received AIP letter requesting passports
    25.06.2020: Passports couriered to INZ
    30.06.2020: Received passports back
02.07.2020: Received the final approval letter and eVisas

Apart from the delays, my experience with INZ was quite positive. I was fortunate to get a very responsive CO, who always responded to my queries within hours, and provided detailed updates on where the assessment was at and how much longer the remaining steps were likely to take. Around mid-June, I had sent a mail to the Manukau branch manager inquiring about the 2PC wait times and my application status. She forwarded the query to the practice lead the same day, who promptly responded saying that I would have a decision within two weeks. I think they all tried hard to put a human face on this long process.

    Congratulations Kuruis ,

Thanks for sharing your time line. Just a quick question, why did they ask for your passports? I thought they would already have that data?

Was this subject to any 49 (c) conditions?

    Cheers.

They only asked for the kids passports as they were renewed in Feb 2020, and hadn't been scanned before. I had only sent them the certified copies of the new passports.

A Technical Advisor in Manukau has this morning confirmed to me that they are now allocating SMC applications lodged on 19 December 2018.

Hopefully the info I got yesterday is incorrect then - My lodgement is Dec 18th and was told by INZ call centre I do not yet have a CO.
