Default Hoping this is an easy Partner of a Worker question...

    Hello everyone,

I’m hoping this will be an easy question to answer.... here goes

I moved to NZ from the UK 3 years ago and have now gained permanent residency here as a skilled worker.

    I want to help my UK partner apply for a ‘partner of a worker’ visa. He lives with me here in NZ and we have lots of useful documents;
    - Joint tenancy agreement
    - Joint bills
    - We’re in each others wills
    - Joint car insurance
    - Joint bank accounts

Unlike ALL the other partner visas which state you must have 12 months of evidence that you live together – the partner of a worker visa does not specific a minimum time frame.

He’s eager to work. How long do you think we need to live together before we can apply for a partner of a worker visa? 3 months? 6 months?

Any thoughts would be so appreciated.
    Thanks so much,
    Anna

We know from experience that INZ take applications seriously with 2 - 3 months' good evidence of living together. Here https://www.google.com/search?source...10.2g4XH1Ao-5E are some old threads with discussion and examples of what other people have used.

since you're a residence class visa holder, you should refer to this visa type:

Seems like you're a bit confused about the visa types? You probably mean the partner of a New Zealander work visa, not a partner of a worker. (you're permanent resident = you're New Zealander)
You need to live together for 12 months to apply for your partner's resident (permanent) visa. Before that, you can apply for work (temporary) visa for your partner. There's no set time for living together but 2-3 months seem to do the trick, we've applied after 3 months. They've asked us for some more info but otherwise no issues.

You're right, I was confused about the visa names - maybe that why I was struggling to navigate the site to find old threads for the same thing - what a donut, sorry!

Anyway, I'm delighted to see such helpful responses and will gather evidence and hope to apply for a work visa for him after 3 months.

Hugely helpful and a great start to my day.

    Many thanks,
