    Default Removal estimate(s)

Our specifications: Bristol (UK) to Auckland, 2 bedroom house with no garage (nothing in it that we will take with us) and no garden furniture.

We've just received our very first estimate from PSS.

£3,598.00 for door to door service, with packing service, for a 20' container. Somehow, ca. £2,000.00 got added to the average price for the container alone!

Crown, Pickfords, Bournes International (???) and Van Lines NZ are next.

If you can afford it, having them do the packing is worth it. They're liable if anything is broken and they're much faster and efficient!

I posted on another thread that last year we used Atlas International for a 20ft container, door to door, Santiago Chile to Auckland. Cost approx $7000 US including insurance with a small deductible. Took 12 weeks to arrive. They used Conroy Removals in Auckland. Minor breakages not worth claiming. All packing materials removed. Beds and tables assembled OK. In our case definitely worth it. You can bring your electrical goods as the voltage is the same. Kettles, toasters, microwave, hairdryers, lamps even our washing machine. It all adds up if you have to replace them but try for a deal on adapters. Did not bring the fridge, it was old and wheezing.

Thank you! I will post again once we've received more quotes.

Crown and Pickfords have insisted on (complimentary) home visits, and no word from Van Lines NZ...

What one person thinks is ordinary and "normal" as the contents of their e.g. 3-bedroomed house can actually be very different from what is in the one next door. The advantage of having had one of their specialists SEE what is in your home before they quote is that they then have no grounds to whinge when they come to pack it, and maybe try to charge extra. (I'm remembering a house-move within the same country, and the van man, whose boss, who wasn't there on the day, had sussed the job beforehand, a) trying to leave without having loaded some of our stuff, on the grounds that he needed to leave *now* to miss the traffic - !, and b) saying, 'All these books - you ought to be going to live in a mansion, not a *****y semi.')

I would be very surprised if no one came to actually look at what contents is going to be packed! For a lay person I find it extremely hard to estimate the right amount, to be honest.

When my mum passed away I wanted to bring some things back with me, and even then the company sent someone round to look at the things.

Pickfords' virtual survey completed this morning, and quotation received an hour later: £ 3,680.00

Very close to PSS and both have come across as very efficient. More to follow

£150.00 plus VAT to have pallets and woonde crates fumigated, but we have to deliver and collect them. I know it all ads up, but it seemed like a small price to pay for peace of mind.

We’ve hadc our ex- next door neighbour in to do a survey / provide a quote (I now fortet is what the company is called as my husband is derailing with that one) and his advice is that the items don’t require treatment if they’ve been painted or varnished. I can’t see the logic there as those were items used for transportation of goods which I upcycled, as opposed to actual pieces of wood furniture. Back to my research but if anyone can shed some light on the subject...

NZ Van Lines have finally sent me a quotation based solely on me clicking the 2-3 bedrooms option on their website and providing the relevant city names (from & to).

Disappointing seeing that all other companies ended up insisting on at least doing a video survey. On a positive note, they are considerably cheaper than the other two:

    A/ 350ft NZ$4830.00
    B/ 530ft NZ$7045.00

Crown doing a home visit tomorrow, and Burkes on Wednesday 👍🏼

We used Crown some 11 years ago (See link for pics) They were not the cheapest but I could not fault them. Took 3 days to pack then 2 days to load containers and they became part of the family.I am sure others are as good as they need to keep up their reputation
