Hi,
Can we apply for a SMC resident visa with a Post-Doctoral fellow position (classified under 242111 University Lecturer)?
It is a full-time, fixed term position (can be for 1-3 years) with package of more than NZ$ 55,000.
Thanks

Does the employer's job description match the ANZSCO list, here? https://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@...ers+and+Tutors
And are you eligible to claim at least 160 points, meeting the criteria given here? https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...-visa#criteria
If you can answer 'yes' in both cases, then it looks as though you may be able to apply on that basis. (If the job offer is for longer than 12 months, that would be more likely to be acceptable to INZ.)
Just thought I'd drop my 2c here as a former university staff.
If your JD doesn't match with anything on ANZSCO you might want to have a look at Talent (Accredited Employer) stream, since most major university here is on that list

Good luck!
Thank you for replying JandM. The post doc job description does not completely match to the one listed for University lecturer as it doesn't involve teaching or other responsibilities of a lecturer. The post-doc position is more research oriented, which is about developing and implementing research projects, supervising research students and grant writing etc.
Is it necessary that the position should fulfill all the job description that's on the ANSCO list? A post doc is not a university lecturer and we cant expect to have the same responsibilities.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing about the visa options Gunkub. I wasn't aware of these options so this is very useful to know.
Thanks
Matching JD to something on ANZSCO is actually something only an immigration lawyer or licensed adviser could do, so I don't think we would be able to comment much on that.
Although in general as long as it matches with a good chunk of them then it should be fine, after all supervising and conducting research is also on that list, but it still might be worth consulting an LIA on this.
Also back when I used to work at UoA they have licensed immigration adviser on campus, which was quite handy. I'm not sure about other universities though.
