I'd never heard of AMS alerts/warnings before. A Google hunt has turned up some mentions which shed a bit of light on what AMS is, and what it's used for.
NOTICE: The large report these first two quotes come from dates from 2008/9, so other matters mentioned within it are not necessarily still true now, ten years later, and shouldn't be regarded as valid comments on the current situation. I'm only quoting the references to the AMS.

The Department has tools in place within its mainstream systems, processes, and procedures for relevant staff to support the prevention of identity fraud. The Department also has access to external systems to support staff in identity fraud prevention.

The main system used in the Department is the Application Management System (AMS). The AMS has been used by the Department since 1997 to collect client and application information on people entering and leaving New Zealand and applying for visas and permits.

Staff can search for client identification information in the AMS by name, date of birth, travel document, client number, and other details. Warnings on clients or travel documents can also be placed in the AMS to alert staff to any issues that may need to be addressed in relation to the processing of applications.

Clients’ risk and value profiles are included in the AMS and cover identity, character, employability, and settlement. The client risk methodology is designed to automatically activate risk and value assessments at different stages of the application process. These prompt “pop-up” messages to appear in the AMS that alert an Immigration Officer or Visa Officer about risks they might need to consider as part of their assessments.

Here
https://www.immigration.govt.nz/docu...ac-2008-13.pdf is another old, no longer valid, instruction, which shows what the thinking was back then about removing or suspending alerts.
Here
https://www.immigration.govt.nz/docu...ac-2010-04.pdf is a further old one about entering alerts.
Here is a more recent directive from INZ about entering warnings on the AMS.
