Default 12 months or 9 months visa After landing in NZ on JSV

    Hi,
I had a slight confusion. The JSV they give these days for offshore candidates is of 12 months. So these 12 months start after landing there ? Or they give 3 months to prepare for arrival in NZ and then after landing 9 months are given?

If someone gets a JsV today for example and he flies to NZ in 15 days so will he still get only 9 monthe after arriving there ?

You may be relying on outdated information.

Nowadays, Work Visas issued under Skilled Migrant Category Job Search instructions to applicants outside New Zealand allow work and multiple entries for 12 months from the day that the visa is granted.

Prior to 28 August 2017, first entry must have been made within 3 months of the visa being granted, and work and multiple entries were then allowed for 9 months from first arrival. This rule is still applied to SMC applications lodged prior to 28 August 2017 (if there's any still lurking around...).

Refer to WR5.5 for the source of this information.

so basically if anyone gets the visa today and travels in 15 days then he will 11.5 months in total and if someone travels in 1 month then he will get 11 months only right ?

    Correct.

Here's the text of that link that Kelerei posted.
WR5.5 Currency of Work to Residence visas

Applicants who are in New Zealand and who made their Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) application on or after 10 April 2007 and before 28 August 2017 may be granted a visa and entry permission allowing a stay of nine months in New Zealand.
Applicants who are not in New Zealand and who made their SMC application on or after 10 April 2007 and before 28 August 2017 may be granted a Work to Residence visa and entry permission with the following conditions:
first entry to New Zealand must be made within three months of the visa being granted; and
the visa will allow work and multiple entries to New Zealand for nine months from first arrival.
Applicants who are outside New Zealand and whose SMC application is assessed under SMC instructions effective on or after 28 August 2017 may be granted a Work to Residence visa allowing work and multiple entries to New Zealand for 12 months from the date the Work to Residence Visa is granted.
