Default New Visa Scheme for parents

    Hi friends

Here is a brief information on new scheme for parents visa that government is coming up with.

    Copied from news link below-

"The government is re-opening and re-setting the visa programme for parents of migrant workers wanting to come to New Zealand.

The visa, which applies to skilled migrants, was frozen by the National government in October 2016.

As of today, the old Parent Category scheme is gone and a new one will open in February, capping the number at 1000 people.

The financial requirements will increase and will be based on the adult child's income rather than their parents'.

The ability for a parent to gain residency through having a guaranteed lifetime income or settlement funds will be removed, but parents will still be required to meet health and character requirements.

Those with current applications pending will be able to update them and keep their current place in the queue, while those no longer eligible will be able to apply for a full refund."

More details here, making it almost impossible to bring in parents:

Under the new settings, the financial requirement:

    1) for one sponsor will increase from $65,000 annual income to twice the New Zealand median income (around $106,000 a year) if sponsoring one parent and three times the New Zealand median income (around $159,000 a year) if sponsoring two parents.
    2) for joint sponsors will increase from $90,000 a year to three times the median income (around $159,000 a year) if sponsoring one parent and four times the median income (around $212,000 a year) if sponsoring two parents.

Pretty much what they're going to do with the SMC Residency Visa

    1. Drop the maximum number of people by 80%
    2. Increase the amount of salary per annum you need to double the annual average, or
    3. If you work for a branch of government, you'll be accepted

Those that qualify can "edit" their current application. Those that don't will be refunded if you've applied for it.

This, folks, is what happens when the absolute minority party gains control of a government. New Zealand is officially closed for business.

Worth considering a 10 year move to Australia if your're elligible for PR over there to get them PR/citizenship there and then move back to NZ or stay there. Not cheap though!

Money isn't the only reason for a move. We would have moved to NZ to be near our grandchildren as they grew up, and for the company of their parents - for family affection, in other words. (A previous rule change stopped that plan.)

I strongly dislike their making the new scheme dependent on the NZ child's income. If the parents of lower income residents have income of their own for life, why can't they join their family? This is discrimination of a most unpleasant sort.

to me extended frequent visits are more than enough, so im glad another parent visit visa exists to cater to this, even if i miraculously am able to sponsor a parent RV

With the new financial requirements to sponsor the visa for parents, it will be almost impossible for most of the immigrants to bring the parents to live with. May be sponsor them to visit here with multiple entry visa not to live with.

We meet the financial criteria and will meet the criteria for 2 once I get back to full-time work after finishing my studies. But my question is... We have 4 parents, how would this work? Doesn't mean that they all would want to move to NZ and they're all in their 50s but still!
