PVV to Residency?
Hello everyone!
I just want to know if I have to necessarily go through work visa application process before applying for residency? How if we've already met the requirement of living together for a year or more (under PVV), do I need to apply for work visa first before I proceed to RV application?
Please enlighten me.
Thank you very much!

No, there is no absolute requirement to hold a Work Visa prior to holding a Resident Visa. You may choose to, if you want to work while your Resident Visa is being processed (as Work Visas are processed significantly faster than Resident Visas).
Note, however, that you will need to apply for a further temporary visa (typically, either a Work Visa or another Visitor Visa) if your current Visitor Visa will expire before a decision is made on your Resident Visa, and if you wish to legally remain in New Zealand past this date. An interim visa is only issued to holders of a temporary visa, applying for a further temporary visa, and remaining onshore (see I1.5(a)); you will therefore never be granted an interim visa solely on the basis of having a Resident Visa application in progress.
