Default Need to be in NZ to do a CAP as part of registration process to become a Registered Nurse

    Hi all,
One of my friends intends to apply to become a Registered Nurse in NZ.
She will apply when still in her home country. The process is quite long.
As part of the Registration process she will need to do a CAP (Competence Assessment Programme) in New Zealand.
She is from France, a Visa waiver country.

    Question 1:
Can she just enter New Zealand with the NZETA which allows her to stay for 3 months and do her CAP ? The whole family (husband + 2 kids) will take the opportunity to visit NZ while she does her CAP.
She intends to fly back to her country and apply for jobs from there after her Registration is approved and apply for the work Visa and enter NZ again when her work Visa is approved.
I told her that they should tell immigration when landing as visitors that she is here to complete a CAP for her Registration so as to be completely open and that she will be visiting the country as well.
Is that the right option for her and her family?

    Question 2:
And if during her CAP she luckily finds an employer ready to offer her a job as a Nurse once registered, could she apply for a Work Visa (Talent Accredited if the remuneration threshold is reached or Essential Skills if not) while on her Visitor visa?

    Many thanks in advance.

Question 1 - not qualified to answer.

Question 2 - this is what the Filipinos, Indians, etc do after doing their CAP. As per my friends’ experience it’s possible to apply for a work visa onshore. Talent accredited employer will have a higher remuneration threshold (79,560–very unlikely for a nurse) so no go there.

Registered Nurse (Aged Care) is in LTSSL... just FYI

    Thanks Allune,
She has calculated and she has the required points for SMC Resident visa but she knows she needs to have a job offer and for that she needs registration. So her plan is first, registration, second, job offer, then work Visa, and if they like it in NZ apply for SMC onshore while on Work Visa.

    THANKS JandM!!!
Yes her CAP course is less than 3 months so Visitor Visa will work if she respects all conditions (like having a return ticket and leave NZ after the 3 months and sufficient funds).

And of course not in continuity. There will be a return to her country after her CAP course is finished.
