    Post Citizenship Requirements.

    Hi there,

I was granted Permanent Resident Visa on April 8, 2019. However I left the country after that and I'm still not back in the country.

My question is that to be eligible for citizenship, do I have to live in the country 3 years from April 2020 to April 2023 or I have to stay 3 years and 8 months just because i couldnt cover 8 months period in 2019?

    Thank you.

See here. It's not as easy as you are assuming.
    https://www.govt.nz/browse/passports...z-citizenship/

As to the Presence in NZ requirement, see below.
You have spent enough time in NZ in the last 5 years

You need to have been physically present in New Zealand for a certain amount of time during the last 5 years. The 5 years are counted backwards from the day you apply for citizenship.

You might not meet this requirement if you have been out of New Zealand for longer than 4 months in any 12-month period. This could be 1 long trip or many smaller trips.

    3. You intend to keep living here

You must intend to live in New Zealand once you become a citizen.
There is a link to get more details, and the first part of it says:
To meet the requirement, you need to have been in New Zealand for:

at least 240 days in each 12-month period, and
1,350 days across the 5 years.
Then there are examples to help you check your own situation.

    Default

Added to the above, it is possible to have the presence requirement reduced to 450 days in the 20 months immediately preceding your application for citizenship, but this is only done in exceptional circumstances. If you feel that you have exceptional circumstances, you should contact the Citizenship Office to discuss your situation.
