Default Application fees while in another country.

    Hi everyone,

My partner and I will be applying for the "Partner of a New Zealander Work Visa" in the next few weeks. On the INZ website, it says if we apply here in NZ, there will be a $635 fee, whereas if we apply in the USA (where we will be in 2 weeks for a holiday and to get married), it is completely free.

    What's the catch?

This feels great if we can apply for free (those darn medical bills have wiped us clean) but it feels too good to be true.

Do we have to stay in the country the entire time it's processing, or can we just apply and then leave as we planned normally.

    Thanks!!

Co-incidentally, I came across a potential answer in the operational manual earlier this week while searching for something else.

New Zealand has bilateral fee waivers with some countries, and the USA is one of them. See A6.5.

Awesome, thank you! That's a huge relief for us.
