This is an unprecedented situation and I'm sure that logical reasoning will still apply - if you still have a job, even if you can't do that job for a while due to the current unusual circumstances, then all should be fine.

    Thanks in advance.
    And what is your job?

I'd sure like to hear a statement from INZ on this. Surely they're not going to cancel visas and turf out everyone who is no longer getting at least 30 hours a week? There must be so many essential skills and work to residence migrants who will be out of work for a couple months at least, it would be crazy to think that INZ would hold it against them in these unprecedented circumstances. Nevertheless, are we supposed to contact immigration to inform them of our change in work circumstances at the presumed risk of having visas cancelled?

I hope we get some clarification soon.

Has anyone contacted the Minister about this? This is politics, as it's a time when (as we all agree) natural justice ought to call for some of the rules to be suspended for the time being. INZ will have to be told by the government what they should do about the many people who will have been in breach of the rules through no fault of their own because of the virus outbreak - they can't take decisions without instructions from above. The Minister may be able to push for some kind of reassurance to be given to everyone waiting.

Thank you for your post, I spoke with INZ Friday and they said that these exceptions are granted on the day at the discretion of each office on duty (!?!?!?!)
I thought it would be a note on a file or an agreement OK'd in advance when circumstances have been looked at and reviewed. But a decision on the day from whoever happens to be on duty? That sounds crazy, We have to book and pay for a flight, travel to the airport, check in, then try to clear immigration with a phone call being made there and then? What if they say no, my heart is a bit sunken now, this little virus as another post put it is keeping my wife and I apart. I know, thankful to be alive, and the situation is changing rapidly but still... very frustrating I'm sure we can all agree.

The Prime Minister today mentioned that an epidemic notice will be issued. What this means for current temp visa holders in NZ is that all visas remain valid for the 3 months following the expiration of the epidemic notice.

Section 78 of the Immigration Act 2009:

78 Deemed extension of temporary entry class visa expiring during epidemic
    (1) This section applies to a temporary entry class visa held by a person in New Zealand if—
    (a) it was current immediately before the commencement of an epidemic management notice; and
    (b) but for this section, it would expire before the day that is 14 days after the day on which the notice expires.
    (2) The visa must, for all purposes, be treated as if it continues to be a current visa allowing stay in New Zealand until the earlier of the following events:
    (a) its cancellation:
    (b) the expiration of 3 months after the day on which the epidemic management notice expires.
    (3) Subsection (2) does not require—
    (a) the endorsement or modification of the visa; or
    (b) the issue of a document extending the visa; or
    (c) the grant of a new visa.
