Extensions for visitor visa due to COVID 19 situation

Hi there,
My wife on GVV was due to travel on 25th this month. Her last day to travel is 30april.

Looking at this covid 19 situation, It doesn't look like border restrictions are going anywhere anytime soon.

I tried calling INZ and due to high call volume can't get to them.

Anyone who can advice what to do? Can we expect any exceptions on visa validity? Any help!

How long has your partner been here on a GVV?

If I refer you to this section of the operations manual:

It says you can get up to 9 months stay in an 18 month period. If your wife hasn't used that, then ask for whatever time she can get up to the nine months described in there.

If she has already used her 9 months, say there are circumstances beyond her control and ask for the three month extra that they can grant or just ask for any extension they can give currently to help out.

Alternatively, if you meet the requirements for a partnership visa you could consider applying for that?

It doesn't appear that she'll be able to travel as only residents, citizens, and essential workers are able to enter the country. Maybe call the airline she is looking to fly with. They may be able to tell you if she can book a flight. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/abou...e-inz-response

Immediate family must have a valid visa or NZeTA and travel with the New Zealand citizen or resident family member on the same flight to New Zealand. "

You can apply for a Variation of Travel Conditions by completing the INZ1020 form, paying the fee and explaining exactly what you want. Given that you don't know how long the borders will be closed for, you should ask INZ to push the first entry date out as far as possible.
