The business experts are ALSO trying to read the future, and again, there are no guarantees that they're going to be right. It may be that the NZ government will reinvent everything to help life pick up again when the emergency passes. In the UK where I live, if, six weeks ago, somebody had predicted that the government (strongly conservative, in normal times won't help anyone if they can avoid it, "there is no magic money tree") would shortly nationalize large parts of the railways, be paying employees 80% of their salaries, be financially propping up businesses and ordering the banks to do the same, be waiving planning permission when people see a way they can change their normal operation to help out (e.g.restaurants into takeaways, private school labs into manufacturing protective equipment), it would have been seen as a wild fantasy disaster movie scenario. But all those things, and more, are happening.
