Default Partner of a worker work visa

    Hi everyone,
I had my essential skills visa approved back in February and returned to NZ mid Feb with my partner (UK citizen) I am an essential worker, specifically on COVID-19 projects, coordinating Healthcare professionals for many different MoH assignments. Off course the timing was not great for submitting a visa. My partner came to NZ on an visitor visa (spent a year previously here with me for 1 year on WHV)
He will also be deemed an essential worker. We couldn't get him a medical obviously so we submitted a letter explaining why this couldn't be submitted. I am just wondering if anyone has actually heard back or know if they are working on cases at the moment. I mean I don't have my hopes up I understand this is a crazy time. However will be be at least given an interim visa before his visa is due to expire.. Which is August 2020 so he doesn't automatically get na extension.
    Thank you

So he has put in his application, has he, including the declaration that he cannot get a medical?

    Hi JandM,
Yes he's submitted the application with a letter stating he cannot obtain a medical and evidence to prove all the visa medical centres are closed.

The NZ government are deciding what to do day by day in response to evolving conditions, and they must still be watching how the shift to Level 3 is affecting things. It's if they think it necessary to prolong the lockdown time that we're likely to see a further stretch of the dates when automatic visa extensions apply - at present, the time period is as mentioned here. https://www.enz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56365

If your husband's essential skill is anything that may help with the pandemic, and he gives INZ notice of this, it's possible he could get priority processing. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/abou...e-inz-response Otherwise, as you see there, his application will be dealt with according to the date-order queue.

Under the present regulations, if the automatic visa extensions period isn't extended, and if his partner-sponsored temporary work visa hasn't been processed by the expiry date of his visitor visa, then yes, INZ can issue him with an Interim visa to keep him legal. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-...t/interim-visa

Thank you so much JandM, this was super helpful. He is classed as an essential worker and will work in an industry that is still up and running in level 4/3 so I will get him to submit a letter explaining this.

Awesome to know he will get the interim!

What a crazy time for everyone.

    Thank you for your advice.

    Stay safe

    Hello everyone,

    1) Do we need to translate SMS, Facebook and WhatsApp messages into English when providing them as additional relationship support evidence?

    2) When the main applicant applies for 1 year work visa extension based on existing SMC application, do the partner (who is included in this SMC application) get an open work visa even if salary/wage of the main applicant is already considered lower than median?

    1. This translator's page summarizes the position. https://harryclarktranslation.co.nz/...n-new-zealand/ (Obviously, you can choose to use some other translator.)

    2. What kind of work visa does the main applicant hold?
