    Default Risk Assesment

Hi Could any one please clarify me this, CO mailed me

    Hi XXX

Your wife has an acceptable standard of health for residence. However, I have received a feedback from Technical Advisor to do some risk assessment of your application. Therefore, it will takes few weeks to finalise your application.

    • What is risk assessment?
    • Does it take too long for case officers?
    • Does this mean, my application is blocked and seeing the current timelines, and co are so busy, they might pick my file whenever they have capacity, which will never happen?

    Am worried.

It sounds as though the Technical Adviser is the official who has been doing the second-person check on your case, and s/he has found that the CO's processing hasn't been quite up to standard in some area or other. 'Risk assessment' doesn't tell us anything in particular. I'm WONDERING - and this is just a lay person's guesswork on my part - if the CO is going to ask for more questions about the future prospects of the company that employs you, as I can't readily think of other areas of 'risk'. Nobody can tell you, unless the CO does.

If the CO has to correct some of her paperwork, that can probably be done quite quickly, as it only depends on her, but it doesn't sound as if it's ONLY that, because she's mentioned it may take several more weeks. If she has to send out queries and wait for answers to come back from third parties, that can take longer depending on how urgently those third parties answer.

No, your case is not blocked - aspects of it are being reworked, so it's back in your CO's rotating workload. If she has had to send out queries, she will review it every few days to see if something else has come to hand that she can take further action on, and it will keep getting its turn for more attention from her until eventually, all the information she needs has come to hand.

I notice that she HAS reassured you about your wife's medical having passed, and that's good to know.

She sounds like a rather forthcoming CO, so I think, in your place, I would reply to her, saying thank you for her message, can she please tell you what kind of risk assessment has been required, and is there anything more you can do to help? That may not get any more information, but it might be worth a try. Good luck.

Did you hear anything helpful back from the CO? A bit silly of her to mention "risk assessment" to you - this is a vague term and usually only used internally at INZ. It would have been better of her to tell you that she was undertaking some further verification checks or specifically tell you what she was required to check. "Risk assessment" usually refers to checks of skilled employment and generally means the CO has to ask some more questions of the employer or do some checks of their own (using internet searches, internal resources, discussions with a Technical Adviser, etc.).

    Hi Egoodhue,
I have emailed the CO, to explain me in which area, the risk assessment is needed, So that I can help in providing more documents to make CO life easier.
    No reply back from CO.

BUt yesterday I have called contact center and the customer agent said that my file is in wellington, Its sent for Special Assesment Team, don't know what that team does and what is special assessment, and its not assigned to any CO (for Special Assesment) and its in queue, Now i lost hopes on my Residence application as its back to normal queue again, I am on priority criteria but no use.

Same company, priority criteria, my colleague git his residence in a week, Mine was unlucky.

Sorry, I have no idea what the "Special Assessment Team" is - must be something new since I left INZ in 2015

Could it be Medical Assessment Team instead of Special Assessment Team? Are you sure you heard it right? Case office can send to medical team if there is anything flagged in your medical reports. They are based in Wellington (from memory). File received for medical assessment is held in normal queue.

    Yes VedSaumya,
I clearly asked in my previous emails, about my partners health.
She said your partners health is alright.

My understanding was that the Special assessment team was a new name for IPB but Egoodhue might know more than anyone else

I found this link, a bit dated so it is no longer accurate but in it it states this

The profiling branch is no longer a separate office within Immigration New Zealand and has been re-named the Specialist Assessment Team (SAT), based in Porirua.
