    Hi,

I got my residency on 19 October 2021. I am outside of NZ from 01/June 2022 till 20/Oct 2022(to fulfil partnership requirements and visit family after Covid19. However, I am working remotely for an NZ company and paying tax).

To apply for citizenship, I heard from a friend that my 225 days will not be counted as I stayed more than 4 months when I am going to apply for citizenship. I would be grateful if anybody can guide me. I hope will be counted, otherwise, it is sad if not counted. Please advise me. I have only 15 days shortage to have 240 days.

and how backward calculation is calculated for a day to apply for citizenship that suits me well and those days would be counted.

    Thanks

    Hello.

Is it actually citizenship you're thinking of applying for next? Or is it Permanent Residence, which would usually come first, as one of the conditions for it is to have held your Residence for two years?

Unfortunately, short answer is "no", pesuming you are talking about your citizenship application at some point in 2026 and trying to work out a date so those 225 days will be counted.

You have 225 days under your residency, didn't have residency before that and out of NZ for more than 4 months after that. There's no way you can have one year period that includes those 225 days and another 15 days under residency.

See here https://www.enz.org/forum/showthread...189#post596189 for Kelerei's example of how the rules work out in practice for one particular applicant.

For permanent residency, I guess it is fine. the concern is for citizenship that later in 2026 I am going to apply for. Even 15 days less not counted? or by bringing justification like I needed to go to fulfil partnership requirement(I didn't go for a holiday) and also I am paying residence tax.

I don't think you can know, yet. Whenever you apply, it will be the most recent five years of your activity, measuring backwards, one year at a time, that will be counted, and not even you can say for certain what you will have done in the time.

Basically, it comes down to waiting until you meet the conditions to put in your application.

hi, We(family of 3) were granted resident visa on 23 Feb 2018.based on that I think I(we) will be eligible to apply to citizenship after 23 October 2022. I was just wondering if someone could review this for me. I have calculated the presence requirement as per worked examples and hopefully i have done it correct.
    Travel dates outside NZ
    24 Dec 2018 - 22 Jan 2019 (30 days)
    30 Dec 2021 - 19 March 2022 (80 days)

    Presence
    Year 1 24 October 2021 to 23 October 2022 > 285 days > 80 days outside NZ (365-80=285) - Requirement Met
    Year 2 24 October 2020 to 23 October 2021 > 365 days > No Travel - Requirement Met
    Year 3 24 October 2019 to 23 October 2020 > 365 days > No Travel - Requirement Met
    Year 4 24 October 2018 to 23 October 2019 > 335 days > 30 days outside NZ(365-30=335) - Requirement Met
    Year 5 24 February 2018 to 23 October 2018 > 241 days > No Travel - Requirement Met
    Total presence = 285+365+365+335+241=1591 days

I will check on the calculator to on the day I become eligible. My passport was renewed in late 2019 and PR visa was issued on the new passport. Not sure if that will be an issue?? Any suggestions if somebody else have encountered issues with presence calculator due to this.
