Presence calculator for citizenship application
Hi All,
A case for a friend.
Does the calculation of days start from days or months?
for example, entering NZ as a resdient on 27-May-2016 and trying to apply as of today 23-01-2021. No travels in any period, the presence calculator is telling him that he does not meet the requirement. when trying to calculate the periods as per below:
1. 23-Jan-21 - 24-Jan-21 (366) leap year.
2. 23-Jan-20 - 24-Jan-20 (365)
3. 23-Jan-19 - 24-Jan-18 (365)
4. 23-Jan-18 - 24-Jan-17 (365)
5. 23-Jan-16 - 24-Jan-17 (242) starts from 27-May.
Can anyone spot any error with our calculation? or the calcluator starts from months not days (which means he will be eligible on Feb not any earlier)?
he has already booked to submit the application next week but he is worried that he got this wrong.
Is there a limit of using the presence calculator offered by DIA? he is daily checking to make sure he is eligible before the appointment?
Thanks

Try Counting it as following:-
23/01/2021 to 22/01/2020
23/01/2020 to 22/01/2019
23/01/2019 to 22/01/2018
23/01/2018 to 22/01/2017
23/01/2017 to 27/05/2016 (first day as resident)

What does the calculator say? Because if it says you aren’t eligible then it also says when you can retry.(Retry in Feb 2021 or something like that) ?

oh yes, before today, it did say check again in Feb. But today, it did not say anything. The appointment he took is 27-Jan or 28-Jan though.

If you believe that there are any irrelevancies, you can ask for Immigration for travel movements here https://www.immigration.govt.nz/cont...ation-about-me
Then you can also confirm with DIA regarding the same upon confirming the record with Immigration NZ
