If the calculator returns a negative result (as in you have not met the requirements yet), it always says try next month. It doesn't mean anything specific to you. For example, October 9th mine said try in November yet it gave me the green light on October 10th. Just ignore it.
You can work out yourself when you can apply. It's important to
count backwards from the day you apply (not forwards from the day you became a resident). So counting backwards, you need to have been present within NZ as a resident for 240 days or more in each of the past 5 years, and been within NZ for a total for 1,350 days or more. This typically means people can apply before they've been resident for 5 years. There's a lot of explanations about it in the "Latest Citizenship Timeline" thread.
