    Default Permanent Resident visa holders - Political rights

    While we are in Permanent Resident Visa can hold any registered political party's responsible position ? or it should be only after getting Citizenship ?

    My knowledge of this is limited -- but I do know that you cannot stand for Parliament or local government without first receiving a grant of New Zealand citizenship (this is stated as such on the citizenship application form).

    There is no legal barrier to holding a position--paid or voluntary--within a NZ political party: standard employment laws apply. Since resident visa holders (either class) can vote, most parties accept these visa holders as members.
