What is Superannuation?

I am getting interviewed for a role and recruitment agency has told me the hiring company will pay 7% superannuation on top of base pay.
My questions:
1. What is Superannuation?
2. Will it be paid out along with the pay or I need to wait to get it?
3. Will there be a lock in period?

However, what the recruitment agency has told you is in such general terms that it's not clear exactly what they mean. For a start, are they referring to Kiwi Saver, or a private pension of some kind? My feeling is that you need to ask the agency, or the potential employer, to explain the terms of the offer.
