Default ANZSCO Skill Level 1 - substituting qualification for experience

    Hi there,

For claiming points, under SMC, for skilled employment, the INZ webpage says:

    • the relevant work experience that ANZSCO states can be substituted for a formal qualification — for any skill level 1 occupation you can substitute the ANZSCO qualification with 5 years of work experience, even if the ANZSCO does not state this

I wonder if someone can clarify something for me. If I spent 10 years in a skill level 1 occupation, and didn't have the formal qualification, can I only count 5 years of that employment as skilled (having substituted 5 for the qualification) or do I get to count the whole 10?

    Thanks!

That's the way they work it. The first five years, having been "used up" substituting for a formal qualification, can't also count as work experience.
