Very shocked and surprised to say the least. Absolutely no idea why this has happened. Waiting on certificates now.

Our applications were as straight forward as they come. I’ll also add we received confirmation email on a Saturday. We were never asked to confirm details, nor was our reference contacted. So this came out of the blue.

Best of luck to the rest of you.

Incredibly lucky! Congrats and get a Lotto ticket for tonight draw!

Everyone, please note that a forum rule (https://www.enz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40236 Rule 13) asks you to let the mod team deal with any post you find objectionable - just click on the triangle sign with an exclamation mark on it at the bottom left.

Another friend in my Facebook group has had their citizenship granted, 5 1/2 months after applying online.

They seem to be clearing the backlog, but definitely not in "first in, first out" order.

I read somewhere that applications by descent get quicker answer

The waiting game is terrible! I cannot stop checking my emails and my mail box...

well the newest unallocated application number is here and the backlog is down by only 439 applications. Hope we see more significant going forward

It may only be 439 applications, but that's the first decrease recorded since April 2021. That's not insignificant.

If this is someone applying to become a New Zealand citizen by descent, then that's entirely true. These applications are entirely separate from applications for citizenship by grant, and the only criteria here is that at least one parent must be a New Zealand citizen otherwise than by descent as of the time of the applicant's birth... and that's the only thing that needs to be validated.

If this is a New Zealand citizen by descent wanting to become a citizen by grant instead: they are in the same queue as you, and must meet the same requirements as you, so this is unlikely to be true. However, such applicants are automatically waived from having to attend a citizenship ceremony (it would be rather pointless, if you think about it), so the processing of their citizenship certificates may be quicker.
