I should add that I would have preferred to apply for a visa to the country of travel if it was an option because asking for an urgent processing took too much effort and the stress after they declined it was too much...

it sounds like you're in an emergency situation. Happy to answer questions about name change during citizenship cert processing, should you have any questions about my case

I feel like we guys are getting caught up, thinking that it does add a lot of time, if HT changes name now. i get that we don't know how extensive these name change checks are. But since he qualifies for urgent processing, I highly doubt they'll delay his case, just because his name is changed

HT, i still recommend option 2

Is this other country not issuing visa to your current passport?

    Hi All,

I just want to check if someone from the group applied for an NZ passport recently? It says that the processing is approximately 1 month.
    Curious about your experience.

    Thanks All.

I've applied for my daughter about three months ago (first passport ever, child, citizenship by birth) and the timeline matched exactly what was posted (25 business days at that time, if I remember correctly). That included identity check via the identity referee.

I can apply for a visa but the earliest appointment at the Consulate General is always 2 months away at any given date. So we were looking at 2 months to renew our foreign passport + 2 months to get an appointment at the Consulate General to lodge visa application + visa processing time. Not to mention the overlapping of applying to transfer our NZ PR visa to the new foreign passports...

I suppose after my second request and further evidence, DIA realised I was asking for the urgent processing because I prefer to travel on NZ passport but it was the only viable option.

didn't realise they're THAT diligent about identity referee check. Didn't you guys say they only do spot check randomly?
I've given my boss' contact. He's agreed to be my referee, hoping they don't call

It's always best to assume that the identity referee/witness will be contacted. If they aren't, they aren't.
