We have absolutely no interest in moving to Australia, I am in the middle of my Phd, we have a house in Auckland and a very comfortable life in NZ.
Husband has always travelled a lot for work, apart from COVID years, of course!
I just asked because my passport will expire in a few months and instead of renewing it, I thought about getting a NZ passport instead.

I'll just throw in a reminder here that the Citizenship Office expects you to keep your current passport up to date right up until you receive your citizenship certificate.

We have been approved for New Zealand Citizenship today. 😀 We just received the email. We called their office to inform about husband plans to travel overseas and everything was smooth! Waiting for the ceremony now 😅

I’m a Brit who has been a resident of NZ since December 2018. This makes me eligible to apply for citizenship in December this year. However am I correct in reading that as soon as I hit 4 years 8 months (August) I can apply? As I tick the 240 days in the year requirement?

My partner (a kiwi) is keen to do some work over in Australia again. What is the rules around leaving the country after getting citizenship?

We have a house here and I envisage NZ being our home in the long run. Likely we’ll rent the house out if we go overseas rather than selling it.

If we were to go to Aussie, I would continue to work contracting remotely for my current employer in NZ.

Can anyone offer any advice on this? I’ve been in NZ for nearly 12 years. I don’t want to jeopardise my position and relationship with the country!!

    Kia Ora Everyone,

Just curious here applied on 1st March 2023 via online tool. I can see people applied after me already received their approval. Congratulations to them!
Can I assume now that my application is now on manual check?

I guess various factors to consider here.

Did the presence calculator show the code 200 ? Was there any elements in the application that might needed a manual check?
Did you receive any communication from DIA? was the fee debited from the bank account?

Few things there. No error code while I check the presence calculator.
May be my travel movements as I stuck in high risk country during pandemic and NZ were not allowing to enter there PR visa holder directly and also MIQ was really hard to get.
Secondly when I submitted application on 27th February 2023 it automatically get canceled due to system error which is confirmed by the DIA. So I lodge another application after they advise me to do so.
Still waiting for 1st applications refund and they are not helping on anything. But finally yesterday senior staff asked me to email all the details once again.

According to the link below, your application is either in Bucket 1, 2 or 5 (6 is for paper based applications. 4 is for Western Samoa, oldest month for applications in Bucket 3 is Apr 2023)
