    Hi all,
We have received an invitation to attend our citizenship ceremony in Upper Hutt for July 2023.
Not sure who in this forum would find this message a source of relief or home, but thanks everyone.

I have submitted my citizenship application for about 2 months, but only received the confirmation that my application has been received. Money has been deducted, however no further communication afterward. Am I correct that there is no online platform to check the application status and we have to email DIA if we want to know more details?

Thanks in advance for your clarification.

    Cheers,
    Sakitran

I wouldn't worry after only 2 months. When I applied in person I was told the wait for someone to be just assigned to look at my application will be about 14 months. And I didn't have any special circumstances. Though looking at this forum and how everyone gets accepted so quickly I don't know where that timeframe came from. I applied in March. Haven't heard anything since.

Sorry to ask here. Why you apply 3 years after getting PR? Could not we apply immediately after?

You can only get citizenship once you have been a resident for FIVE years - so how long since you got PR is irrelevant. https://www.govt.nz/browse/passports...-requirements/

Thank you. It is written that
If you are planning to live outside NZ
If you know you are going to live in another country, it must be because you will be:

working overseas for the New Zealand Government
working for an international organisation that the New Zealand Government is a member of, such as the United Nations, or
employed by a person or organisation based in New Zealand

    Is that after citizenship?

If you are planning to travel outside NZ
You will be asked about your travel plans for the next 12 months. If you plan to travel, you may be asked to prove that New Zealand is your home because you:

    have a job here
    are studying here
own or rent property here, or
have assets here, like cars or furniture

So this last part seems a bit strange to me. After citizenship it is an investigation seems to me !

NZ citizenship (and residence) is a privilege, not a right. The government's attitude is to try to be sure that they only give the advantage of being NZ citizens to people who are intending to contribute to NZ society, by being there, taking part in NZ life, paying taxes, etc.. These questions are checking out the applicant's attitude to that - the applicant needs to show good intentions.

Of course, no NZ citizen can be forced to live (wherever), and, realistically, people's circumstances change so they come and go, as do native-born NZers. But the principle is that, by applying to be a citizen, an applicant is giving a deep-down allegiance to New Zealand. They have to be prepared to answer on that basis.

Thank you so much. So, the vague point for me is the expiry date for residency? What is the expiry date of residency based upon? Consider I get residency and it is written that in last two years (count back from the date I apply for PR) I just need to be in NZ for around 180 days to be eligible for pr. Consider I have a job and I get residency. Then I worked for 180 days and then resign and go to my country until the time I want to apply for pr. Then turn back and apply for PR. Is there any problem with that?
This is why I asked about the expiry of residency? Is it related to passport expiry?
