I'm curious, IF someone's citizenship application had been approved, he/she went to another country (e.g., Australia) to work (on his/her passport with a work visa), came back just to take the ceremony, would DIA know?

Do DIA check the travel history before issuing the certificate or even before inviting to the ceremony?

I don't KNOW an answer to this, but I don't think anybody would be safe to assume that the DIA wouldn't do it. Also, if someone was found out, the course of action would be interpreted as fraudulent dealings with the NZ government, which can be met with serious consequences.

The Minister can take away your citizenship if:

you got citizenship of another country and voluntarily acted against the interests of New Zealand, or
you got your New Zealand citizenship through:
committing fraud
falsely representing yourself
deliberately hiding information when you applied for citizenship
an administrative mistake.

DIA is working on it, but it's not launch yet, so as this stage, no.

My husband's citizenship application is in process and he is planning to visit his parents in France end of September for 2 weeks. Applied in July 2022. No CO assigned yet.
Does he have to inform DIA about his trip in a month?

You need to notice DIA, I heard couple people got approved while they were oversea and their PRs got canceled (Not attend ceremony yet) and need to returned as visitors which need to paid an extra cost.

Thanks. Yes he has informed DIA yesterday.
I thought the PR was canceled only from the day of the citizenship ceremony though.
If he is granted citizenship within 2 months from now he won't have had his ceremony yet.
Hopefully the PR gets canceled only from Citizenship ceremony otherwise he'll have to return as a visitor indeed.

This actually makes me wonder.
If he has to return as a visitor does he have to leave the country before the 90 days and come back in as a citizen?
I assume he wouldn't need to but then his record would show him as entered with an NZETA. Don't know what impact that has.
