I think the best way to deal with the uncertainty about his visit abroad and how it might affect his grant of citizenship is to phone or email the DIA and ask the various questions. I've seen on the threads that during lockdown, when certificates of citizenship were being mailed out (when the ceremonies hadn't yet been resumed), DIA delayed printing one person's certificate until he would be back in the country, exactly so as to avoid causing problems by invalidating the visa he was travelling on before he got home. If they could do that, it looks at least possible to me that they might agree to keep your husband's PR visa active and schedule him for a later citizenship ceremony. This strikes me as one of those times when it's got to be worth asking the authorities about YOUR OWN case, rather than worrying and trying to guess.

You are right JandM. He will call DIA next week. That will also give him the opportunity to ask if he has been assigned a CO yet.

Probably mixed bag as it was all the time. Applied 30/06, approval 03/08, invitation 21/08, ceremony - 12/09. Southland.

I've been mostly silently reading forum nearly 10 years, it was so helpful that I barely had to ask any questions.

It was long and very interesting journey, but without all the insights, rumors, guesses, gossips and news it would be insanely stressful. Thank you very much for all the help and effort everyone.

    Hello all,
Does anyone know if the Life Identity Services Officer is the person doing all the documents checks and giving the application file to a Case Officer who "only' has to make a decision on the case ?
When we receive an email from the Life Identity Services Officer asking to confirm our personal details are correct and our travel plans, after having provided 2 missing documents that sounds to us that it's the last stage of the checks.
Those of you who have been through the manual check process, does that sound correct, are we close now to having a decision made?
    Thanks heaps in advance

The latest Citizenship Guidance Document mentions the involvement of the Life and Identity Services Officer in serveral places. Reading this may (or may not) answer your question.

I've dealt with some Life and Indentity Services Officers myself, but outside of the citizenship process: it was to do with authenticating various New Zealand documents for use in a foreign country.

@nzfrog, If you don't mind telling what were the missing documents?

Sure. It was birth certificate (which is very surprising to me that we missed this, but we have busy lives ) and Marriage Certificate in the original language (we provided the translated one)
