Default Resident Visa directly instead of a Job Search Visa is that possible ?

Does anybody aware of / know of any case where SMC got a Resident Visa directly instead of a Job Search Visa?

They have not awarded the Resident Visa without a job offer since 2017.

    Refer to SM3.20.

To be granted a Resident Visa, you need to qualify for points for an offer of skilled employment or current skilled employment in New Zealand, or you need to have undertaken two or more years of full-time study in New Zealand that has resulted in the award of a Doctorate or Master's degree. Obviously, you also need to meet all other requirements for approval (e.g. English language, health, character, etc.).

If you do not qualify for points for employment (current or offer) in New Zealand, and also have not studied in New Zealand for at least two years to obtain a Doctorate or Master's degree, but you meet all other requirements for approval, the decision on your SMC application will be deferred and you will be invited to apply for a Work Visa under Skilled Migrant Category Job Search instructions (these instructions may be found at WR5).

Once this Work Visa is granted, you will have nine months (if onshore) or twelve months (if offshore) to obtain an offer of ongoing skilled employment (per the definition of skilled employment at SM6). If you manage to do this during the deferral period and prove this to INZ's satisfaction, your Resident Visa may be granted provided all other requirements continue to be met. If you do not obtain an offer of ongoing skilled employment by the time the deferral period expires, your SMC application must be declined.

    Hi can anyone please help?
My wife’s Resident visa travel condition expires on 4th march and she has already booked return ticket to NZ on 22 march which means her resident visa would already expire by then.
Can we apply for VOC and submit application in NZ while she is outside NZ. Mean she can send me the documents and i can submit her documents in NZ? Thanks
