    You are indeed going at this backwards. When your wife's details come up if she applies for any visa in addition to the partner-sponsored Residence, it will be obvious that she is NOT wanting to be a visitor - she has NZ family, and she is wanting to make a life in the country. A visitor's visa is not a catch-all for any situation that a person hasn't been able to get some other visa for - it really does mean that it is for somebody intending to make a limited-length, temporary visit to NZ, after which they will go back to their established life in some other country.

    This is REALLY SERIOUS. Not being genuine could result in being barred from making further applications for several years. You may need to put off your travel plans until your wife has an appropriate visa.

    Hi, thanks for the advice. Yes we're being totally upfront and honest. We've decided to wait it out here until it's approved.
