A quick question... your theory is that when checking for the most recent visa, it came up as a Work visa in your case?

You mean your work visa was issued "after" your resident visa (and probably no longer valid too) ? And the API returned this invalid work visa as your most recent visa?

Will do! I have escalate so many times and I think the call center people might think I am crazy. They pretty much just brush me off saying all the data we pull from immigration and if you think there is something wrong, please talk to immigration.

The actions I have taken is write an further investigation to immigration about my visa history.
And further escalating within DIA until someone is willing to take me serious.

I am very frustrated, as this problem is so hard to explain to people who are no technical.

    My situation was:

my previous work visa is expeiring and I HAVE to apply a new work visa while my residency visa getting processed. My work visa is approved BEFORE my residency visa. However, my work visa is applied AFTER my residency visa.

The visa hisotry I looked through immigration is indeed Work visa is on top of my residensicy visa.

    Theory:
The Visa History API endpoint is the same endpoint as the visa history of the online service in INZ.
The response of the Visa History API from Immigration is ordered by visa lodgement date, instead of visa start date.
AND the calculator is take the response as it is without checking.

These was just based on my reasoning and my history showing in INZ website.

Have you ever applied for another visa while waiting for your residency visa getting approved?

Ok, pretty sure now the situation is exactly the same.

She applied for a new work visa while the residency was being processed. Work visa was approved first. The resident visa was approved a bit later. But the work visa application was lodge a bit before..... Exact same situation!

Not sure now who to call first? Guess I'll try INZ. They are the one who fed DIA with the data....

Here's what I've done just now. Saving the call for later, for now I just went with online inquiry...

    * Email the citizenship office explaining the situation.
    * Ask INZ for my full visa history and if possible, exact data they returned to the likes of DIA's presence calculator.

Let's see how it all goes down....

Wow, I wished I have done that!
I am so so so glad that I am not alone! But I also feel sorry that your wife has to go through this madness.

    What I have done:
    1. escalated twice in INZ call and the manager suggested me to dropped a letter with timeline of communication history. It's been 8 days without any reply.
    2. Phoned 3 times with DIA and escalated twice. Emailed them, they replied with the standard, online material which I have escalated again. The email escalation replied to me saying that "if I think it's a technical issue, I need to call DIA". So getting brushed off AGAIN.

Still need to wait for several month before fulfilling the presence requirements of citizenship application. But after seeing this thread I am a little bit worry and tried the presence calculator. Bingo, I joined the error code 213 family. (My wife and son have similar travel records as me, but without a working visa in between the application of resident visa, and they have the normal code - not eligible 212).

May be let me highlight the key days of my case as follows and let me ask a few questions please.
    2014 - apply resident visa
2015 - apply working visa, then approved within 1 month (it should be expired in 2016)
    2016 - resident visa approved
2018 - apply extension of resident visa for two years (know as SSRV - Subsequent Secondary Resident Visa)
2020 - apply Permanent Resident (PR)
2023(March/April) - I have just renewed my passport and is applying to transfer the PR to the new passport.

May I ask a few questions here:
    (1) Did you apply any other visa (such as PR, I think may be yes) after the work visa and resident visa were approved. I don't understand why in my case I applied for quite a few additional visas after the Working Visa but seems their "dates" are still link to my first resident visa application in 2014

    (2) I frequently use the Visa Verification online service to confirm my visa status. But you mentioned that there is a "visa history of the online service in INZ". Would you mind share the link for me. Or I should email INZ to ask for this?

    (3) I am relatively LUCKY as there is still a few months for me to try to rescue my error code 213. Please do share with us for the latest status so that I know whether I should approach INZ, IA, or both. Thanks so much for your help.

Sorry to read about the issues here... unlucky to be caught in this.

How do you guys know what the code means? I'm reading here about code 213, kiwijj wrote about 212 (is that what is supposed to show to those not-yet-eligible but who should be all right once their time comes?). What does code 216 mean?

Based on your experiences, once you think you are eligible - does it make sense to try and resolve/understand why the calculator shows "ineligible" and rectify with DIA/INZ before pushing the "apply" button? Or is it better to go ahead anyway and get your place in a long queue? Do you know what's the official advice in this scenario?

You can search for a document "OIA request 21/22 0423 - Request for the presence calculator formula", which shows the overall logic of the presence calculator.

I extract the error code from that document

    Response code/Description
    200 Eligible
    204 No identity found
    210 Multiple identities found
    211 Eligible within 3 months <month> <year>
    212 Not eligible
213 Not eligible due to visa
    214 No travel movements found
    215 Consecutive travel movements found
216 Not eligible due to visa validity period too short

I think 212 is a normal code when days in NZ not yet meet the requirements. 216 meaning is as above.

I am not sure what is the the best approach to handle seems incorrect error code from the presence calculator. I still have a few months before meeting the presence requirements and I have just emailed to both INZ and DIA to seek for solution of my code 213. First round reply is as expected some general rules for citizenship application. I may try some more rounds before I give up . Hopefully some more friends experience the issue right now can share their experience and thoughts. Thanks.
