Dog import - MPI import permit processing time question

Hello,

First, thanks to the group, I've found a lot of really helpful information on here. I have not seen this specific question (but could have missed it, if so, apologies).

I am wondering if anyone has recent experience importing a dog to NZ and can comment on the MPI paperwork approval timeline. They report "at least 30 working days" to process the import permit (after OVD form submission), which would be at least 6 real weeks. That seems rather open-ended. I don't see statistics on processing times like INZ has for various visa categories.

I would like to plan on starting her parasite treatments etc (which have to start weeks ahead of time and are timed pretty specifically off the move date), but I need a move/flight date to do that. We have all of our human papers in order, it's just the dog process that's holding things up. We're coming from the US if that makes a difference. I do have a pet importer. who is offering very general and vague advice (understandably, but still the uncertainty is difficult). The importer tried to clarify with MPI but they would not provide any further estimates or clarification. I understand there are no guarantees and each scenario is different but just looking to survey the group for experiences. I suspect this might be a busy time.

Did yours get processed in a month, 2 months, longer???

Sorry not to be able to help. I haven't seen any RECENT cases on the threads of dogs being imported. The hope is that maybe someone reads us here but hasn't yet shared their story.
