    Default Waiuku,Auckland

    Hi All,
    Still looking for rented accommodation!
Where ever we pick has to be with in our price range too,for when we do buy eventually!
Like the Howick and Bucklands area but expensive and we want something with an acre of land if we can get it.
So hence my question of the Waiuku area, which we reckon is probably about a good 40 mins from Manukau? we think!!?? prices seem ok but is the area ok?
anyone know anything about it and the schools? Girls are nearly 11 and 10yrs.
Any info would be great, but will probably have a run out there tomorrow to take a look.
    Many thanks
    Mel

We visited our friends in Waiuku on several occasions. It is definitely one of our favourite place. In the nice and cosy town centre, there is a hotel rich in history (more than 150 years old) http://www.historic.org.nz/magazinef...08b_single.htm and a church designed by NZ's most awarded architectural firm http://www.nzherald.co.nz/topic/stor...ectid=10385272

    Thanks Singel.
Had a run out there today, well spent about 4 hrs driving around and popping in the agents. Some lovely affordable houses out that way,but not so much that is for rent and will take the dog!
Definately keen on the area, about 40 mins from James wk and only about 10 mins to the beach, which Bronnie had a lovely time on again today. That really black sand that gets everywhere!!! She is just like a child can not keep out the water!!
Think we'll be back tomorrow having another look at the rented houses that way.

Have you had a look at Pukekohe? Definitely worth a look I would have thought.

Yep,did look there and liked it but rental market very bad if u have a dog!!
Pleased to say we turned up trumps today at Waiuku, with a rented house.
Saw one advertised in the local paper.4 bedroom nice area, nice estate and decent size garden for $348 per week, water included but that's it.Jumped at it and paid a deposit, move in 2/9!now we need to start buying just general day to day things like a kettle!! already bought irion and board!
Even got the kids into the school about 5-10 mins walk down the road! they start on the 4/9!
So a good day in all!
Bronnie even had 2 walks on the beach today as Waiuku has a river which was nice and then we went to Clarks Bay which was nice.
Was just saying to James tonight, cost of food so far is def no cheaper or does n't seem it to me,but once we get more settled and buying the norm will be interesting just to see if there is any difference.
    Had lamb chops last night,gorgeous!!!

Wonderful new Melanie! Good on you for exploring the areas with your girls - we had to look on various maps to find Waiuku, looks like a great rural area yet not too far from AKL if you need it. Best of luck with the move this weekend and wish the girls well for Monday. I bet they can't wait!! Keep in touch.

    Thanks Guys.
Yes we get the keys tomorrow and hopefully move in Saturday.
Girls and i went to school and paid for uniforms today, although they are optional, but easier if they have them, saves 2 hrs in the morning for them to decide what they are wearing !!!!
The area does seem nice and everyone seems to have good words about it,even the lady in the furniture shop we were in tonight!
It will hopefully suit us,nice in the country and near the sea and river ,but near enough to Auckland for shopping if need be and James work.
Hopefully we will have broadband by Saturday,so will be on the internet more then!
Can't believe we have been here 2 weeks now, time has gone very quickly, but there has been such alot to organise.
Just found out that our house in the UK,(the people who wanted to buy it from us were going to rent it while they sold their house) they have just informed the agents that they can no longer afford to rent it but still want to buy it! Sods law,so it's back on the market, and just fingers crossed. If it has n't brought much interest in the next month then we might have to rent it out,as mortgage over there and rent here don't really mix too well!!!!!!
Will post more over the week-end.
    Mel
