    Question Organic Food - availability?

I知 new to the board and have so many questions!!!!
I壇 like to start with food. I buy organic meat, eggs, milk and vegetables here, as I believe they offer health advantages to my family and I like to know what I知 eating. Aside from growing my own veggies how easy/difficult is it to buy these in Tauranga?

If you need to know what I mean and what the advantages are - have a look at my favourite shops website http://www.jimbos.com/food_meat.php. At one point the beef and lamb they sold was imported from NZ but is it readily available in the local shops????

    Thanks for your help,
    Jules (California, USA)

First off, welcome to the board! This is an amazing place to find out just about everything you need to know.

I have been here for 2 months now and am blown away by the choice of organic everything! We are in Christchurch and every Saturday there is a large organic market, there is at least one dedicated organic butcher, several organic restaurants, two really good organic shops which sell just about everything and that's all I've found so far! The supermarkets seem to have a reasonable range - much the same as the UK but the other stores are fab!

Don't know about Tauranga but I'm sure it would be much the same

I buy quite a lot of organic produce, but for me it's more important to buy local and seasonal food.
Tauranga has a farmers market every Saturday morning, held in the grounds of a local school.

    These are useful websites:

    http://www.organicpathways.co.nz/
    http://www.organicsnewzealand.org.nz/products.htm
    http://www.organicfooddirectory.co.nz/

The last site the directory isn't functioning yet, but it has the makings of being a good source of info.

I use these people for delivery, and I've looked and they will deliver to Tauranga (but personally, being based down there I'm sure you could find a local supplier cheaper):

For people in East Auckland - I found an organic shop in Clevedon. Had all the usually plus meat and frozen stuff. The blueberries were lovely and I got a job lot of bran for me muffins as well.

    anyway details:

    Clevedon Organix
    21 Clevedon-Papakura Rd
    Clevedon
    Ph: 2929 556

the woman who owns it is a lovely lady from Hull called lindsey who has a great outlook on life with that northern wit.

Nice little village Clevedon as well.

you can get organic baby food and soy milk in the supermarkets.

have a look at www.woolworths.co.nz and you can browse their online shopping - gives you a good idea of what sorts of things are readily available. prices are generally a bit cheaper in store.

    Default organic veggie boxes

Most of the organic food shops (at least in Auckland) will deliver a weekly veggie box to your doorstep! You may indicate your likes and dislikes and they will try to accommodate it. There's no easier way to assure that you eat your 5 servings of vegetables a day (there's always something about to go off in your fridge and it just MAKES you cook and be creative with recipes!) What could be more exciting than ripping a box open to see what's for dinner tonight?!? And someone else does the walking/driving for you!

I tried several shops in West Auckland and decided to stick with the one in Pt Chev. 30$ a week for a (they call it small) box of organic veggies and fruit (apples do taste like apples from my childhood. What on Earth have I been eating all these years?!?!) Talk to your local organic shop. They may have a similar service!
