Can we visit any offices in person to get IRD's here in NZ or must it be done via post? Plus, what timescales are involved?
Thanks
Helen

Hi Moorf, it's got to be done by post and takes up to 10 working days from when the IRD receive your application. I believe if you phone in and have a very good reason for urgent processing, the IRD may issue you with a fax. no and you can fax in your details and they'll process your application rapidly - within a day.

I hate to contradict ENZ, but Dave went to the IRD department in Palmerston North just after he arrived in NZ and sorted his out there and then.
Also, a friend of ours went to the IRD the week before last and got his IRD card through in a week. Maybe it depends on where you are and how busy they are.
Jeepers Dave/Sandra :eek - in that case the IRD has an office in Cashel Street which is probably handiest for you Helen. If you go there, please let us know whether they deal with you over the counter because they told me they didn't.
Hi Moorf and Woz
You can download the appropriate form off of the web site, fill it in, put a little explaination (ie, Have got a job) and fax it back. If you put on a phone number on it, they will phone you back, with the number. They did mine in two days, although I havent got my card yet.
The web site address is: www.ird.govt.nz
The form you need is: IR595
The fax number is: 03 353 6691
Great tips - thanks... will let you know how I get on after this Bank Holiday is out of the way!
