    Default Going home

First trip back in 4 and 1/2 years; we leave tomorrow night, for 3 weeks. I feel a weird mix of apprehensive, stressed out and excited. There are so many unanswered questions, such as - Will the taste of a mature cheddar blow my head off after 4 years of Tasty? and - how many pence is a packet of Walker's crisps these days? Do Muller still make corner yoghurts? Am I four and 1/2 years out of fashion? Will my friends gasp and faint when they see my wrinkles and grey hairs?

I will keep you posted with answers to these questions and more ...

Whereabouts in the UK will you be visiting?

All the best - have fun!

After this considerable period spent here in NZ is your home still there?

(Only now read what Georgebulldog wrote alas...)

My bricks and mortar (read wood and tin) home is here, but I lived my first 35 years in England and I will probably always call it home.

I would not call the whole country my (former) home but the region I grew up in and which formed my character. Having left this being 18 I relocated a lot through different regions in my (former) 'home' country. I havn't entirely felt home in any of them but now I do so here!

It happened some time ago that I stayed some time with a friend in Whangarei. In a talk with his neighbours I was asked if I didn't feel homesick. My spontaneous answer was: Yes for Dunedin. We discussed it further and I realised this answer had really been correct.

I am sure you'll find Muller 'Corner' yoghurts no problem! Enjoy the trip back, will be interesting to see how you find it now.
